Sometimes we need a reminder of all that we know. This list is a great prompt for teams to dwell in the details and make things happen for freshman.
Language matters. Language that is repeated is more impactful. We started with the Circle of Success and spent part of a school year boiling each idea down into the language that we could use in our classrooms and put on our walls.

If a freshman has straight A’s, he or she is on the right track. If a freshman is failing all of his or her classes, there are adults in this building that are on the job to help.
Our principal greeted a student in the hallway who looked a little confused. He asked her where she was going. She replied that she was going to a conference room to meet with her teachers. She was concerned.
The principal extended encouragement and hoped that the meeting would go well and went on his way…
The end of the first quarter, not the semester, was two weeks away. The most recent grade reports of students reluctant to do homework revealed many with grades below 50%. I did the math in my head. These students would need 80% or higher during second quarter in order to pass the semester. For some it was mathematically impossible to pass.
