They will give you a peek inside the form and function of their PLC and what they've learned.

Joey Edberg, a Teacher of the Year recipient at both the middle and high school levels, challenges the trend that relationships must come first in a successful classroom. The greatest gift we can give a freshman is the mastery of a skill. Joey will talk about how the relentless focus on skill development brings about deep and satisfying teacher/student relationships that lay a foundation for future academic success.

A WEEK AT THE TABLE IN A FRESHMAN ACADEMY

Todd Novak will lay out a case that time given to teachers in the Freshman Academy format is an investment with significant return. A walk through a week of The Freshman Academy at Jefferson High School is used to show the practical, the philosophical, and the structural aspects of time use. Additional resources are cited so that all attendees can go deeper into these ideas.

LEADERSHIP AND CULTURE BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL: A SUMMER PROGRAM CALLED CONNECTIONS

Matt Kiesow will present the core philosophy of what we do during the summer. It’s called Connections. He will give an overview as well as practical tips on how your school district can prepare freshman leaders for the first day of school. There is also the option to purchase the training module at a discount for conference attendees.

Lindsey Keiper will distill her decade of experience with Kagan Structures into a hands-on hour that will grow your knowledge of what cooperative learning can do in your classroom. Scott Habeeb will talk about the many ways a freshman academy can be structured. As an administrator for almost two decades and a presenter and clinician at scores of school districts and conferences, he has unique and creative ways to help schools meet the demands of the budget, the needs of the students, and the opportunity for teachers when a freshman academy is created. There will be a significant time for questions.
